Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a life threatening allergic reaction which usually occurs as a result of eating a food, taking a medication, or being stung. It is vital that people with anaphylaxis be assessed by an Allergist to try and determine the cause. It is also essential to have a plan of how to manage future attacks should they occur (action plan).

Some people who have an episode of anaphylaxis need to take adrenaline with them everywhere they go. In some people, there is desensitisation available, particularly to insect stings.
